Protecting ESX/ESXi Clusters Against Outages (vSphere HA)

In this short video, you will learn how to protect VMware ESX/ESXi clusters against outages, by using AvailabilityGuard. As part of its nightly process, AvailabilityGuard collects the configuration of virtual machines, ESX clusters, vSphere HA, VMware SRM, datastores, the underlying disk arrays, and more. This configuration data is correlated and analyzed to identify issues that can cause ESX cluster outages, downtime on specific virtual machines (VMs), and other ESX issues.

Failover issue within an ESX Cluster (vSphere HA)

One of the examples featured in this video showcases a three-node ESX cluster. In the example, a VM called Star1 is running on ESX node moon3. The VM is using 6 HDS logical devices as its storage. Unfortunately, the other two ESX nodes do not have access to those same HDS storage devices. When the Star1 VM is forced to fail-over to an alternate node, it will be unable to restart on that node, and all of the services running on Star1 will experience downtime.
