RecoverGuard™ Sample Gap 00279

Synchronous Replication Inconsistency - suspended device

Sample Gap 279

Result: Data loss, increased time to recover

The signature

Replication Inconsistency - Suspended device

The impact

In the event that the disaster replica is needed for DR purposes, these disaster recovery replica will be unusable. Data will need to be restored from a recent backup increasing the time to recovery.

Technical details

In this example, the production database consists of three storage devices.  The intent is to replicate these production storage volumes to the disaster recovery site, however, one production storage volume is in a suspended state and not being replicated.

Can it happen to me?

This gap can be created when an storage volume flagged for replication is added to an existing volume groups but the storage device was not establish to the replica device.

First Name
"Today’s enterprises are managing complex datacenter environments that consist of a variety of applications, platforms, and storage arrays. These environments experience daily changes in configuration and distribution of resources. These realities challenge IT organizations to ensure consistency of data and applications across production and recovery sites. Replication is a commonly used technology to move data from production to recovery site; any slight change in configuration on the production site that is not replicated at the recovery site can cause the environment to become unrecoverable."
