Key Business Continuity Management Features
RecoverGuard’s robust feature set, along with its cross-vendor, cross-domain and cross-platform support, makes it the perfect tool for ensuring business operations can quickly resume in the event of disaster or unexpected downtime.
Business Continuity Vulnerability Detection
Gap Detection Engine: This powerful technology automatically uncovers data protection, availability or disaster recovery risks that exist between the production and DR environments or production and HA servers. When the Gap Detection Engine detects a problem, it alerts you so it can be address before the business is impacted.
Community-driven Gap Knowledgebase: Continuity Software is constantly updating its comprehensive gap knowledgebase with thousands of configuration gaps that have been discovered by RecoverGuard customers, Continuity’s engineers, vendors, and others. RecoverGuard’s Gap Detection Engine uses this gap knowledgebase, which allows you to benefit from the knowledge and experience of many.
Realtime Verification of IT Changes: Quarterly DR tests or configuration audits are not enough to ensure continuity of operations. RecoverGuard continually scans the infrastructure, searching for configuration changes that could impact recoverability, and alerts you when they are detected.
Comprehensive SLA Management
Recovery Point Objective (RPO) Measurement & Analysis: RecoverGuard makes it easy for you to assess your ability to meet your RPO Service Level Agreements (SLAs). The software provides a high-level, aggregated, graphical overview view of the infrastructure, and identifies where RPO problems currently exist. You can even drill down to see more detailed information by business unit, or for host components, such as databases or file systems.
Policy-driven SLA Management: Users can establish SLA policies by host, by business service or by business unit. RecoverGuard will monitor the configuration against those policies, and issue alerts from SLA violations are detected.
HA/DR System Configuration Validation
Host Configuration Drift Identification: To keep HA/DR environments in sync with production, RecoverGuard allows you to identify significant differences between production, HA and DR servers affecting recoverability and service levels in case of fail-over. In addition, the user may compare hosts against a server which you establish as the standard, or Gold Copy, in your datacenter. RecoverGuard monitors other servers with similar profiles against this Gold Copy for configuration deviations. This feature ensures standardization across the infrastructure, regardless of platform, domain or vendor, which is a critical mandate for business continuity.
Identification of Best Practices Deviation
Data Protection Gap Detection: In addition to cataloging DR and HA issues that could impact recoverability, RecoverGuard’s gap knowledgebase contains hundreds of problems that may affect data protection in production. When data protection vulnerabilities are detected, an alert is issued so it can be address before data loss occurs.
Vendor-based Best Practice Repository: Continuity Software regularly updates a community-driven knowledgebase that contains best practices recommendations from a wide range of vendors, including Oracle, Microsoft, Symantec, EMC, Hitachi, Network Appliance, IBM, Sybase and others. This ensures you get the highest level of performance and availability out of your infrastructure.
Live Data Center Documentation
Dynamic Granular Topology: RecoverGuard provides an interactive, graphical topology of all data center entities, along with the dependencies and relationships between those entities, to provide you with tremendous insight into your environment. You can see exactly how the environment is configured at a high-level and identify dependencies between hosts, databases, arrays, and other components. Then, you can zoom in for a more granular look at how a database is stored on array volumes, what replicas it has, which hosts is accessing the replicas, and other details.. Unlike vendor-specific tools, RecoverGuard displays all components in a heterogeneous data center including database elements, LVM configurable entities, multipath, storage, and so forth.
Comprehensive Reporting: RecoverGuard provides a wide array of reports which can be generated on demand to help you assess and analyze your current ability to maintain business continuity. Reports include:
- Optimization, which reveals storage saving opportunities
- Host Data Protection Path, which visually displays how data is stored on storage volumes and how it is being replicated
- Unsynchronized Remote Replication, which shows any synchronous or asynchronous replication of used storage volumes that is not in sync, including history and RPO details.
- Old Replicas, which highlights replicas created in the past that potentially can be reclaimed to help drive cost reductions
- Many others
Data Center Changes Journaling & Search: Change is constant in data centers, but RecoverGuard can help the entire data center team stay informed of those changes and their impact on operations. The software can provide a comprehensive list of changes that occurred during a specified timeframe, or on a particular domain, database, storage area, or other component, or even by type of change. Unlike other solutions, RecoverGuard change logging capabilities can show how change in one domain, such as Oracle, may affect or require additional changes in other domains, such as storage.
Business View of Business Continuity Risk Level
Risk Assessment Dashboard: This dashboard can provide executives outside of IT, such as Risk Officers, with keen insight into the company’s readiness or risk levels. These dashboards offer a high-level view of the company’s DR, HA, and data protection status, and immediately understand what that means to business operations.
Alerting & Management
Tickets: RecoverGuard automatically generates tickets to alert you to potential problems. Tickets are sent to the right person in your organization based on business service impacted, role, and critically of the problem. To simplify management, tickets are automatically closed when the problem no longer exists. Ticket reports can be generated in various format such as HTML, RTF and PDF and can be sent by email or integrated with common management systems such as HPOV.
