RecoverGuard in Action: Assessment Case study
A large insurance service provider relied on his in-house disaster recovery system to provide aggressive SLA to protect his critical business services. His strategy called for bi-annual testing of the critical business services, and as some of the tests failed, he was looking for a way to improve his disaster recovery readiness.

The IT infrastructure was based on two datacenters (production & disaster recovery), EMC Symmetrix/DMX with SRDF/A replication, and over 500TB of primary storage. The database infrastructure was based on 12 Oracle 10g instances, protected via SRDF/A replications. The server infrastructure included hundreds of Windows, Redhat and Solaris servers.

During the evaluation Continuity Software used the RecoverGuard product to assess the risks in the storage infrastructure. A total of 28 risks were detected, and the key findings were:

2 risks were related to databases with no protection
3 risks were related to unusable storage snapshots (BCV's)
4 risks were related to databases inconsistency (database can not be recovered to a valid consistency point, e.g. unusable during disaster)
24 TB of reclaimable storage (old copies of storage assets, allocated storage that was not mounted and other)
